Tales of the world – Interview with Guilain Mathé (part III), researcher Democratic Republic of Congo

July 05, 2012

Jules Cornet, Belgian explorer, called the Congo a “geological scandal”, due to the mineral riches that abound in its soil.
Coltane is but one of the many precious and little talked about minerals that make the Congo a country where war is waged not only for identity reasons, but for the mastery of economic resources. Our Iphones, tablets and computers function because of Coltane, of which the Congo has 64% of the worlds’ resources.  Although mechanisms are in place to guarantee that Congo war Coltane does not intrude upon our consciences, we cannot be sure of it.
