July 19, 2015

This is our final podcast from The Show Newport 2015, and I must say that this will be a real treat for audiophiles.

We begin by speaking with the legendary Andrew Jones, formerly of TAD, who introduces his first efforts with ELAC Americas. The first line is called Debut, consisting of very well priced entry level audiophile components. For instance, the  B 5, a 2-way bookshelf speaker with a 5.25 inch woven aramid fiber cone for the mid/bass and a one inch cloth dome tweeter, lists at $229.99/ pr.  Can't wait to see and hear future offerings.

Then, Michael Borressen, Director of Research and Development, Raidho Acoustics, describes what he is showing down the hall. The small room was typically packed with curious visitors, who got to hear a well-priced Scansonic floor stander as well. He also explains the benefits derived from the ultra low mass of Raidho's famous planar membrane tweeter, and other neat elements of high end speaker construction.

A.J. Conti from Basis Audio then comes on and shares his passion for turntable design. His engineer's mind and systems approach is in evidence as he explains how there is no substitute for precision. His beautiful turntable was the source in an amazing-sounding room and  anyone would be proud to own such a magnificent machine.

Finally, Irv Gross, representing Constellation Audio, discusses how the company came together and what led to its well-deserved place among the highest class of electronics. Irv is always enthusiastic, but his is especially excited about the new Centaur II power amplifier, just introduced in Munich. He explains the Centaur II boasts very high current, which translates to better bass.

What a line-up! Enjoy, comment, share.
