November 05, 2013

Hello fellow TORWarriors and Blah blah blah….

I’m not quite feeling like myself today. Alright?!

Anyway, we have some epic news from all over the globe when it comes to Star Wars. Listen in to hear what we chat about this time and leave your comments below.

News:

1.  In game Cartel Coin purchases are coming back in today’s patch!  From Amber Green, we got the following information:  “On November 5th, all game servers will be unavailable while we perform maintenance. The In-Game Cartel Coin Purchase feature will be implemented during this downtime, and there will not be a new patch to download.”  She also reminded us of a discount available to subscribers:  “…for subscribers, the first [Cartel Coin] purchase using the feature will be 50% off.”

2.  SWTOR had a nice little screenshot contest on their Facebook page.  The contest was holiday themed, asking players for their spooky and scary screens, or to dress up for Halloween.  Some of the screenshots can be seen here.

3.  EA’s second quarter earnings call took place on October 29th, and the call gave SWTOR a few nods, though none of them were particularly noteworthy.  For example, consider this:  “The quarter’s revenue was driven by our sports titles and continued strength in our catalog offerings, like FIFA 13, SimCity, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Battlefield 3.”  They also had this kind of riveting commentary: “…extra content and free-to-play contributed $127 million, up 11% over the prior year, led by continued growth in FIFA Ultimate Team, FIFA Online 3,and Star Wars: The Old Republic.”

Discussion:

1.  Episode 7 Speculation:  First, we talked last week about Michael Arndt, who was working on a script based on Lucas’ own material, but he has now stepped aside.  We also learned that Lawrence Kasdan, who was the screenwriter for The Empire Strikes Back, is working on the script with director J.J. Abrams.  However, some new tidbits have emerged:

~George Lucas spent a year working on Episode VII before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney, according to his son.  In addition, Jett Lucas says that his father is involved in the production, but in a background role.  He’s acting more like a ” parent watching their kid going to college would. He’s constantly talking to J.J. … At the same time, he wants to let it go and become its new generation.â€

~There are reports that Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast in a yet unnamed role in Episode VII.  You may not know Chiwetel’s name quite yet, but you will soon, as he plays Solomon in Twelve Years a Slave, and may win an Oscar for his performance.  However, our fans probably know him best as the unnamed agent pursuing River Tam in Serenity.

~Abrams is apparently in tune with pop culture, and agrees with fans on the proper Star Wars’ films tone and outlook.  He is apparently aware of the fan-made video Four Rules to Make Star Wars Great Again (embedded below), and stated recently that, “I would say that [the video conveys] a feeling that we share very much.â€Â  Here’s the video for anyone that is interested in what those “four rules” might, in fact, be:

2.  It seems that the famous “lie” that Obi-wan told to Luke about his father wasn’t Obi-wan’s fault.  It was a judgement call by none other than Yoda himself, who said, “Obi-wan would have told you long ago had I let him.”  This little tidbit was discovered on an old Laserdisc (remember those?) and only recently resurfaced.  It was cut before going to print on Return of the Jedi, and was lost to time until now.  Here’s a link to the video.
