We welcome Mia Bruno, Acquisitions Manager of Gravitas Ventures to the Business of Film Podcast.

The simple truth is we should have titled this episode Sex & Drugs with Mia Bruno… but you’ll have to listen to the interview to find out why.

Gravitas Ventures is an indipendent film distributor and they are doing some really interesting films. Starting and capitlizing on the growth of digital distribution, Gravitas is a filmmaker friendly company that not only prides itself on distributing great stories but using analytics to help guide its buying decisions.

What’s Working?

These days what I can not emphasize enough is cast. This is the feedback we get from accross the board cable and digital providers. A film is – I don’t want to say completely dependent – it makes a very large difference between a film that has cast that is recognizable and notable and film that doesn’t.

On the Importance of Artwork:

We work very closely with our filmmakers to make sure that they have artwork that is going to stand out on the platform.

On Social Media:

Social media is 100% a motivating factor. We want to see, going in, does the film have any visibility? For films that don’t have it, it’s something we work hard with filmmakers to cultivate.
