East. West. The Wall. The Cold War. Hitler. The Holocaust. These are words that come to mind about Berlin and about Germany.

I am no historian. Nor am I an expert on contemporary European affairs. But I know this. Berlin is better than advertised. And to be very direct, if you’ve never been or have no intentions to go, you’ve never really lived.

Announcement: I’ll be taking the Travel Hacking Podcast on the road! I’ll be in Zagreb, Croatia on June 1, 2014 and will leave from Oslo, Norway on June 18, 2014. If you’d like to connect, simply holler.

Let me explain why and what most people miss out about Berlin.

Don’t forget to join Travel Hackers’ Tribe on Facebook to get notified about my very first Google Hangout live event this Saturday 5/17 at 10AM Pacific.
Spotlighted Destination

Berlin, Germany

This city is huge. For starters to get the checklist of things out of the way, I would do the free tours that begin in front of the Starbucks at the Bradenburg Gate. Just google “free tour Berlinâ€.
What Most Miss Out

Berliner Philharmonie: One of the most famous in the world and is a beloved institution.
Badehaus: Tuesday nights for Swag Jam – Live Hip Hop Jam presented by The Swag. This is the infamous place where I got to see Dead Prez perform. See below.

Take the Tram: M1 tram goes through my favorite parts of town. It’s above ground so you’ll see it all.
Hackescher Markt: The guy that sells Tiramisu there is who you’ll need to look for.

Check out the immigrant communities of Berlin. It’s amazing. Turkish, Vietnamese, you name it. Amazing food options and a great way to see how many people come to Berlin for a better life.
If you’re low on energy, drink Club Mate. It has a funny taste but works better than coffee.

As a reminder, I am hosting a Google Hangout this Saturday 5/17/2014 at 10AM Pacific.

I will post a link with all of the information on in the Travel Hackers’ Tribe so make sure you join our Facebook group.

Next episode will be Friday so until then, stay cool and safe travels.

Cheers.

***P.S. I’ve been going back and forth about this for the past week or so. My original intent of creating this podcast was to empower and serve the travel community as best as I can. So the thought of monetizing this platform is something that would be nice but I am struggling with finding the right tone for a venture like this.

At the end of the day, I’m not interested in a scalable business or putting out a mediocre product that can sell. My whole life has been about community, life experiences, and pushing ourselves beyond what we even think we can achieve.

After much thought and consideration, I’ve decided that this is how I will move forward. I don’t know when I’ll be freed up to do this but when the time is right, I’ll open up travel hacking consulting services to help you travel smart, save money, and see the world in style. I’ll tailor it to your needs, your goals, and what matters to you in travel. I’d be honored to help.
