14: [Destination: Tangier, Morocco] How to capture the essence of Tangier, Morocco

May 01, 2014

It's been 5 months since I step foot in Africa for the first time. I arrived in Morocco jetlagged, tired, and, quite frankly, no idea what to expect.

I had no real reason to be in Morocco. I never dreamed of Arabian nights or had a taste of chicken tagine. It was just an opportunity that presented itself and soon enough, I discovered very quickly, that it was one of those trips that I would never forget.

Spotlighted Destination

Tangier, Morocco

Take the ferry with FRS from Tarifa, Spain to Tanger Ville, Morocco.
Travel Tip: Avoid people trying to haggle you and walk straight to the ticketing booth at the dock.
Eat at Ray Charly's for the best chicken in town. Their chicken and liver combo is exceptional.
Walk around the medina and you can't miss it:

Stay at an Airbnb that has a rooftop view. Morning coffee will never be the same.
Pay attention to the country's youth. There are musicians, students, entrepreneurs. Each and every one with a big smile on their face. They also like to hang out at Cafe Hafa.

Special Thank You

To Michele for hosting us, who we found on Airbnb. She was so helpful in helping guide us around as well as looking after us to ensure our safety. Her place is very unique and provides an amazing local experience.

I hope today's episode inspired you to take the leap and visit Morocco. And don't forget to join he Travel Hackers’ Tribe if you’re interested in connecting with the community.

Until next time, have a wonderful day.

Cheers.
