Episode #10: Gilmore Girls

August 17, 2016

We made it to our 10th episode! And I'm celebrating it by covering a show sentimentally (and geographically) close to my heart, GILMORE GIRLS. My co-pilot and I dissect the fast, snappy, highly referential dialogue, surprisingly nuanced emotional beats, and the ever-entertaining small town gossip from Stars Hollow's townies. Though writing-style comparisons have been drawn to the likewise fast-paced Aaron Sorkin, there are few shows to my mind that accomplish what Gilmore Girls does--fluctuating from being almost laughably light to constantly rearranging the darkness of its characters' deep-seated bitterness, resentments, and inability to communicate, all the while creating perhaps the most iconic mother-daughter duo in television history. If you have questions, comments, or feedback, OR if you'd like to suggest a show or come in as a co-pilot, please feel free to write to thisisyourpilotpodcast@gmail.com twitter: @yrpilotpodcast // @hauntologies BONUS: This week's Test Pilot segment takes a look at Seeso's new quasi-biographical comedy, Take My Wife. Created by (and starring) real-life comics and wives Rhea Butcher and Carmen Esposito, Take My Wife traces the every day lives of two women trying to further their comedy careers, who also happen to be in a serious relationship. Rhea and Cameron are super funny, charming, and always wear the coolest jackets, and remind us how life affirming, even life saving, it can be to have positive, normalized representations of the LGBT community on screen. With only 6 twenty-minute episodes, this first season flies by, and is definitely a must-watch this summer!
