Episode #08: The X-Files

July 27, 2016

My buddy Joey returns to talk about a show that is so near and dear to my heart that it is honestly difficult to outline it fully - however we do take our time working through this pilot of THE X-FILES to discuss the more nuanced emotional and behavioral notes of both Mulder and Scully, how the two green actors David and Gillian developed the roles, some phenomenological points of interest, and generally how passion, belief, loneliness, and love are expressed through the spookiest quest most audiences at the time had ever seen.  If you have questions, comments, or feedback, OR if you'd like to suggest a show or come in as a co-pilot, please feel free to write to thisisyourpilotpodcast@gmail.com twitter: @yrpilotpodcast // @hauntologies BONUS: This week's Test Pilot segment introduces Netflix's new original series, Stranger Things, an aptly spooky sci-fi mystery cloaked in Stand By Me or even Goonies-esque comforting childhood nostalgia. With a handful of horror homages to hook genre fans as well as a tightly interwoven emotional core in a (so far) cohesive mythology, Stranger Things accomplishes many of the things I love about shows like The X-Files. What's more, it quite possibly could maintain the story structure and narrative logic that will only send its more metaphysical elements to even greater pay-offs. Highly, highly recommended.
