Episode #07: The Sopranos

July 21, 2016

This second episode with my dad explores HBO's must-see mafia drama THE SOPRANOS. Arguably the very best pilot I've watched so far, we explore the thematic elements of capitalism and decay, romanticization versus the naturalism of violence, Tony Soprano as an anti-hero modeled after Milton's Satan, and the use of music in the show amongst other things. We also talk broadly about the development of the cable television landscape, as this HBO series set the tone fo many, many contemporary works to come. Likewise, we have a more cohesive and definitive discussion about serialized television and how the Sopranos revolutionized how audiences engage with long-form media.   If you have questions, comments, or feedback, OR if you'd like to suggest a show or come in as a co-pilot, please feel free to write to thisisyourpilotpodcast@gmail.com twitter: @yrpilotpodcast // @hauntologies BONUS: This week's Test Pilot segment introduces HBO's new limited series "The Night Of", which traces the unnerving sequence of random coincidences coupled with simple naive mistakes leading to the arrest of college student Nas for a grizzly murder he has no memory of committing (if he was even the one to commit it).
