4. A Sack Full of Christmas Woe

November 14, 2016

This Week
A long-term career at Notts County has eluded Mark, is the Christmas curse now broken?

Sam is coming to the end of his Football Manager 2016 save with Stoke. He finds himself second in the Premier League, constantly changing places with Chelsea. Man Utd are hot on his heels.
Sam's Football Manager 16 Career
Domestically he saw Chelsea off in style in the Capital One Cup.  He see's them as his main rivals this season, so any victory is massive for him.  The first leg saw Chelsea thrash his Stoke side 4-1, Sam cam back in style to knock them out.

In Europe he's drawn Juventus in the Champions League and is confident of the win.

Liverpool sack their manager and Sam applies for the job.  Apparently they don't want him back, despite the success he brought to the.

We discuss Sam's tweaking of his tactics to suit the team he is about to face.

Once this season is over, he'll be moving on to a save on Football Manager 2017.  Who should he manage next?
Sam's Tip of the Week
When you're looking for a win in the match, check the other teams fitness levels.  If they're low, overload them.  He finds this often gets him the win he is looking for.
Mark’s FM 17 Notts Career
No surprise really, Mark was sacked at Christmas time.  Well, January 10th 2017 actually.  So, technically he's already broken the getting sacked before Christmas curse he has with Notts County.

After unsuccessfully applying for a couple of jobs elsewhere in that save, he decided to start again at Notts with a new save.
What is he doing differently To Reach Christmas & beyond?.
First off sacking club legend Mike Edwards.  Which didn't go down too well with the fans, but they'll get over it.

Slowly recruiting staff.  On the original save wholesale changes were made as quickly as possible.  This possible destabilised the club (Mark's theory anyway).

Set the Statapp 4-3-3 tactic from day one.  Mark knows he's bad at tactics, so fell back on a reliable one he'd used in Football Manager 2016.
Training
Simply attacking and defending. Fitness pre-season.  During a recent slump defending proved to be the way forward.  The tactic will always provide goals, the issue during the slump was stopping them going in at the other end.

Mark finishes the episode with a rundown of the season so far - still not reached Christmas, but sitting 5th in the league.  Signs are good that this will be the save he breaks the Christmas curse.  If only the owner weren't so fickle, a couple of bad results and Mark is considered "an under pressure" manager, despite being in the top half all season.
