TWP 021 : Destination Weddings, All Your Questions Answered

April 21, 2013

Have you ever considered an overseas "Destination Wedding"  but thought it was just too difficult? Not anymore! I'll happily fill you in on the details of my find if you promise to take me as your photographer. :)

In this episode of the podcast, I interview Angela Woods from Wedding Destinations - a travel and wedding planning company based in Melbourne and servicing local, national and now international clients looking to marry in locations all over the world. I knew there are service providers that could help with different aspects of an overseas wedding but  I was pleasantly surprised to find that Angela and her team do EVERYTHING for you.

The cool thing about Angela's experience and knowledge in this area is she had a destination wedding herself. With that experience, she has a total understanding of what needs to happen for a successful wedding day for you and your guests in what could be a once in a lifetime trip.

During the interview we cover topics including:

The best destinations
Resort options
Booking all the different services
Timetables for the day and for booking
Best time of year for your destination wedding
What's included with Angela's fees.... (hint) EVERYTHING
Legal bits 'n' pieces
Dealing with family objections
Can you use your frequent flyer points?
Guest and family accommodation
Extending your holiday for you or your guests
Honeymoon options
The difference between booking yourself and having a professional do it all for you
Why have a destination wedding?
Can you bring your own photographer or other service providers?
The cheapest recommended destination and options
Where Angela would go if budget were not a consideration

Be warned... if you're not thinking of an overseas wedding, listening to this podcast episode WILL change your mind!

The Benefits of a Weekday Wedding

A mid week wedding may not be something that you've thought about but after a recent conversation with another wedding service provider, I share what are some very good reasons to think about a Monday to Friday wedding. The advantages easily outweigh the disadvantages and include:

Forced long weekend for your guests
A bigger and better party atmosphere
Better venue prices - especially in peak seasons
More availability with the popular chapels, parks, venues and reception centres
The possibility of booking service providers later
More wet weather photography options
Cheaper accommodation for you and your guests

Can you think of any disadvantages to a mid week wedding? I could only really think of one. Listen in to the podcast and see if you agree with mine.
