TWP 017 : Bridal Dance Lessons, Wedding photography Awards and Amazing Wedding Invitations

March 17, 2013

A great bridal dance sets the scene for a rockin' wedding reception - anyone that's been to a wedding knows that! In this episode of The Wedding Podcast I spoke to Kate from Dance Events in Newcastle to how she can possibly get a couple to perform a show stopper at their wedding in just three lessons!

The interesting thing I found is the dance instructors at Dance Events have a unique way of teaching dance moves, far removed from the precise steps of ballroom moves. Kate and her team focus on choreographing a unique bridal dance for your ability - no matter if your partner has two left feet.

During the interview we discuss:

Traditional and slower bridal dance lessons
Contemporary moves
Song choice and who chooses what
What you need to know before your first lesson
What to expect from start to finish
Will you need to do dance homework?
Is video a good option for learning to dance?
What if some of the bridal party are out of area?
How much time do you really need to learn a bridal dance?
Can you get away with a single lesson?
Costs, packages and what's included

Whether you're thinking flash-mob, a breakout dance, including the whole bridal party or a special father daughter dance, you'll want to hear Kate's take on learning a dance for your wedding. I knew there were plenty of options, thanks to all the You-Tube videos going viral but I didn't expect that it would be so possible and within reach for anybody.

I'm yet to see a flash-mob breakout at one of my weddings but I can't wait to see it someday - what a reception that will be!

Wedding and Portrait Photography Print Critique Night
Also in this episode, I was invited to a wedding and portrait photography critique night in Newcastle for professional photographers looking to enter the upcoming state and national AIPP print awards. The awards are not only nerve wracking but prestigious as they are judged by our peers and accumulating points/awards at these events see the status of the photographers rise from associate to master photographer.

Having achieved my Master of Photography form the AIPP a number of years ago and judging awards in the past, it was great to get involved alongside David Oliver and Tania Niwa to help out at the critique night.

Looking at the prints coming through, it's obvious that there are some very talented photographers in Newcastle and it'll be great to see some of them earning awards in the near future.

Awesome Wedding Invitations
Following last weeks episode with Melita from Invitations by Melita, I stumbled across a website featuring some truly incredible wedding invitations. I'm unsure of the costs involved in having something like these for your wedding but none the less, they are well worth a look. I've added a link below.
