Cover Songs are a lot like coffee. If it's made poorly and with bad product then it's warm brown sludge that I want nothing to do with - however, made properly with fresh ground goodness and I may as well be speaking with the Gods as everything around me becomes sharpened. The satisfaction of a well made cup of coffee is similar to that of good cover song. It depends who's covering who and what the song actually is, for sure - but how they're covering is most important. You don't want anything too rote from the coveree, an ideal cover will give a knowing nod to the original as the artist imparts his own style & self into it.
