Inside the SPHL Podcast Episode 48 – Godspeed, Boss

April 05, 2018

LAFAYETTE, La. -- The latest episode of our Inside the SPHL Podcast is bittersweet but one of our favorite episodes to date. Joining Mike Campos and Matt Harding tonight is the founder of this website, Joe Rozycki. The Sin Bin's outgoing editor-in-chief makes his first-ever appearance on the show for about 15 minutes until he learns a valuable life lesson:

Nobody spends just 15 minutes on this podcast.

We decided to forego our plans of talking about the mostly-decided SPHL playoff race in this episode. Instead, we decided to give our soon-to-be-departed boss the proper send-off he deserves. Tonight is an episode dedicated to the nine years Rozycki dedicated to hockey writing, from a Missouri (now Kansas City) Mavericks blog to The Sin Bin's eventual formation, how our site has grown since then, and all of the incredible stories which come with it.

* How the unwavering support of Mavericks GM Brent Thiessen gave The Sin Bin its unique, independent voice right from its inception.
* The eventual expansion of the original blog to include the pre-merger Central Hockey League.
* The story behind the CHL/ECHL merger and the extraordinary measures taken to break such a big story.
* The creation of our current website, thesinbin.net and how the site was launched only three months after its proposal.
* Some of the current website's big moments, including:

* The interview with NBC broadcaster Doc Emrick.
* The comprehensive coverage of the 2018 CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic in Indianapolis.

We will forever be thankful for the incredible work Joe did in bringing minor-pro hockey news to the fans, and our editorial team of Harding, Matt Thomas, Samantha Hoffmann, Kristen Wooten, and I will do everything in our power to continue and expand on Joe's amazing vision.

Finally, we welcome Fayetteville Marksmen media director Ben Garrod to our team in covering the 2018 SPHL Presidents Cup Playoffs. On Sunday, April 8th, we'll bring you before-and-after coverage of the league's first-ever Challenge Round show and air our playoff preview show immediately following the league broadcast.
