tsc77: What’s Next ~ Rev. Lyle

April 13, 2014

Last month we talked a great deal about devotion … about commitment – to ourselves … and not to something outside of our own selves. But to work on who we are … what we are … what we want … what we Really want.

We talked about commitment to our growth … to change … to learning something new and positive.

We talked about dancing around things we wanted to do … or needed to do, and then not doing them.

Rev. Ali talked about OPT’ing IN … and committing to that path that leads us to transformation. By Observing… Participating … and then – Transforming.

We are all seekers, that’s why I believe we are here … on this physical plane … and here at Satya. And I believe, this is as good a place as any to start.

This month our theme is “Spring Into Action.â€
And my talk is “What’s Next.â€

Because I am thinking … after last month … and, we are now looking at being dedicated and committed to our own growth … to our own spiritual path.

But … which way do I Spring. If I am going to leap into action … that’s great … but, what if I jump in the wrong direction.

I mean what if I’m not even on the right path and I’m leaping forward in the opposite direction of what I really want?

Last week Pam gave us some wonderful insight and stories about bringing into our lives the things we want … or want to be. She talked about her path to be the number one sales person in the country. About Jim Carrie and how he visualized … more than that, actually owned the feeling of being a millionaire. Then she followed by visualizing her way to being that number 1 person in the whole country.

And I loved the story of Greg Braden and the Indian shaman. How he didn’t pray for rain or treat for rain. He got into a meditative state and became … the rain.

All wonderful exercises in not projecting … not begging or pleading … or asking for something (which is only admitting you don’t have something).

But in BEING the change.

For my talk, I think … because we have just entered into a new season … Springtime … I wanted to examine … how well do we know ourselves … and do we know if we are in alignment with our desires.

If we are to be devoted … devoted to what?

Not just outside … but inside.

And if we are going to BE … BE – what?

Look … at the world around, at your life. What is happening.

Have you ever noticed how often I make a point of the relationship between what is happening around me … in the outside world … and what is happening inside.

Outside, is out there in the physical world of jobs and people and life happening. Inside is the world of feelings … and heart … and mind.

Those relationships exist, because I really believe that this is an attraction based and reciprocal universe. It is why we continue to call this Religious … Science. Because we are on a Spiritual path of enlightenment and we understand the use of science and the laws in the Universe.

Anyway … Springtime in the world of the physical manifest … is about Winter – the colder darker season – where some animals and some plants (like my lawn) go into hibernation …… and the transition into the lighter, brighter and warmer world … where the animals are starting to wake up and the lawn is growing again and turning green. And I get my lawnmower out of the shed. And we start thinking about change, new thoughts … and thinking … what’s next?

I think we all love to see the changing colors and the bulbs coming up and producing wonderful flowers, around this time of year. And farmers, and gardeners, are getting ready to plant their crops. Maybe they are preparing the soil, or even getting seeds going in the warmth of their homes.

But for us too … Spring is the promise of change. You see more people outside working in their yards or walking their dogs … going on trips …

hopefully going to their favorite Spiritual Center. There is a promise in the air that it is going to be lighter and brighter and warmer.

That we are ready to … wake up … to start anew … to grow … maybe even transform our lives.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like Spring includes the promise of something new.??

That’s what I want to talk about today.

Us … waking up … coming out of hibernation … and entering into a new world. Transformed.

Now I know some of you are thinking … what the heck is he talking about … we are here and awake … and this is the same world we woke up to yesterday, and the day before.

But that is not what I am talking about. Because you just slipped back into the realm of the physical world and are referring to what you can see and touch … outside of yourself.

I want you to get out of … out there … and get in to … in here.

I think if we don’t begin to understand why we do what we do … we are doomed to repeat what we did last summer … that didn’t work.

I want us to look at what we want … what we really, really want … to recognize the truth of ourselves … and come from the heart.

I want us to Spring forward … consciously. To plant seeds of desire that are in alignment with our souls desires. And to plant those seeds in fertile soil.

And by that I mean … planting seeds (or thoughts) into soil (our mind) that is willing to receive.

Are you ready???

I think there is something, a way (there are more – but today we only have time to explore one of them) that will assist you in recognizing your true path.

And that is to know a little bit more about what you value in life. Because if you can look at a set of values … and claim them as your own … then when you move forward all you have to do is look at what you are doing and ask your self, does this align with one of my values. If it does not … you may be out of integrity, or a little off the path.

It might be like this … if one of your values in life is integrity … yet you find yourself being less than honest … you can stop and know … this will NOT get me where I want to go … where I want to be.

It is actually very simple … and the trick is to have a set of values in your pocket that will remind you … hey – you are out of line.

So … in the spirit of Springtime … are you willing to do a little exercise with me?

It will work best if you will close your eyes.

This is not a meditation, but get comfortable.

Now … think of a person you respect and admire.

They can be someone you know personally – or not, it can be someone you heard about, or read about.

Alive or dead, doesn’t matter. It can be Abraham Lincoln

Real or not. Like a character out of a book.

But picture this person in your mind. Now get comfortable with them … talk to them if you’d like.

And then ask yourself … what are the traits that you admire and/or respect about this person.

If we were doing this in a class I’d have you write them out … list a whole bunch. But today … just think of a few things that really stand out. Remember them.

Now let them go … whoever that person was … say thank you.

Now I want you to think of a second person you admire and respect.

Picture them in your mind. Say Hi.

And think of two or three things you really admire about them.

Ok … let them go too.

Now … with your eyes still closed … think of the things that you admired and respected about the two people.

Now – which traits did they have in common. Or maybe you can just remember a couple of things that meany a great deal to you.

They were kind … or generous … or ambitious? Whatever.

Ok … open your eyes.

The thing is … those traits, or values … were words that meant something to you ………….. or you would not have come up with them.

And what they are … are most likely standards for what you want from yourself.

And … if … you find yourself acting outside the realm of your standards … you just may be out of alignment.

And you just may find that things are not flowing in your life when your actions don’t match your hearts desires.

When you are in integrity … in alignment with what you truly value, things (life) will align and flow with you.

For me …

When I am of service … when I am acting kindly … when I am in a peaceful state of mind … then I am coming more from … Who I Really Am.

And I can value myself … and respect myself much more. It is a wonderful place to come from.

This is one way to find your path. We are all individuals and have our own ways … so don’t think you have to do it my way …

I only hope I can shine a light or share a story or give you some ideas that may help and assist you along your way.

We are individuals … but we are not alone.

Plant seeds this Spring.

Seeds that you want to see grow.

And so the lesson begins.
