Dr. Pearlstein is also founder and president emeritus of The American Experiment, and author of Education Roads Less Traveled. Even more, over the course of his life (so far), Pearlstein has worked in a homeless shelter, been an anti-war activist, a reporter, director of public relations for the University of Binghamton in NY at age 25, received his PhD in educational administration/ higher education, was a speech writer for a Minnesota Governor Albert H. Quie and wrote the governor's biography, served four years as an editorial writer and columnist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, served two years in the U.S. Department of Education during the Regan and first Bush administrations, started and raised funds for an entreprenerial think tank in MN, and more.
