Samuel Cox Interview

July 31, 2014

Samuel's work tries to bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds.  For example, in his work, Gigalinc, he uses some old game controllers to allow viewers to swim through giant wall-sized images.  The swimmer gets to explore the image using natural gestures.  In Flood Beacon, Samuel wanted to improve the nature of flood forecasting by reducing the reliance on predictive (weather) data to using actual water level measurement.  The Flood Beacon uses GPS and ultrasonic sensors to measure the water level and broadcast it to the cloud.

Sam's work is most often focused around designing experiences and inventing hardware prototypes/products that fill the digital physical void. This usually sits in-between three corner stones; Creative Technology, Interaction Design and the technical ability to make, code and build it (electronics, hardware, 3D design/print etc).
