Alina Balean and Rucha Patwardhan Interview

July 24, 2014

Alina and Rucha are NYU ITP students who wanted to explore communications.  They both landed in the same classroom and began collaborating on a project that turned into a wearable, internet of things, hoodie.  To their surprise they developed a hoodie that can send updates to Facebook.

In a double interview I talk to Alina and Rucha.  They are both in the ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) at NYU.  Alina and Rucha are, in their own words, almost fearless experimenters now.  They've built an interactive hoodie, the Smart Hoodie, that is a gesture based communications system.  The first message from Smart Hoodie was to Facebook and said "I'm wearing my Smart Hoodie and I'm in class, so leave me alone."  They are striving to move the glass out of the way of human interaction; having gesture based computing and messaging.  Working with the future forward basis of gesture based technology they are pushing the boundaries with the Smart Hoodie concept.
