Heaven, Earth, and Government
There is an old saying “Too Heavenly minded to be of any earthly good.”
Is it possible to be to0 heavenly minded? If heaven is far removed from earth, than the answer is “Yes.” But is this the Biblical concept of “heaven”? No, it is not. In the Bible, heaven and earth intersect in various ways. The God of the Bible is intimately involved in His “good” creation.
Heaven has been a key topic over the years for the Gospel for Planet Earth. In fact, it was the revelation of the true Biblical concept of heaven that inspired this blog and concept in the first place.
In this month’s Gospel for Planet Earth Podcast, we are exploring what some of the implications of rethinking heaven and the gospel. We all might be a little surprised to find out some of the political implications as well as possibly gaining some insights into why many Westerners, and particularly men, have left and are leaving the institutional church. If we have believed that the main goal in life is to arrive safely in heaven after death, only to find out that the Gospel is not really about that, maybe it is time that we start looking closer at what the Gospel actually is. If we have been hearing something in the Gospel that isn’t not there, it means that we have not been hearing part of the Gospel that IS there. And if the Gospel means “good news”, who wouldn’t want to hear it?
Sometimes it is easy to deconstruct things. But today we are putting in the effort to do some reconstruction, (a much more challenging task!). This is the more important work.
