Truly folks, it does in fact seem that when the sun is out, so too are guns out. And America has its own very particular relationship to both guns and crime. So for this week’s episode we’ll be reviewing two high-intensity crime movies: Michael Mann’s Heat and Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain

Michael Mann is known as one of the highly awarded and considered criminal film and television producers of his time. Heat is considered his masterpiece, balancing storytelling craft with technical wizardry. We’ll talk about how it holds up to the label of masterpiece, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro sharing the screen, and character likability.

Next up, and almost 20 years later is Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain. No one makes a movie like ole Kaboom himself, so Michael Bay meets True Crime has all the potential in the world. Plus, what could be more summer than a Florida set story about gym-rats and bodybuilders? We’ll discuss where it ranks on our cinematic heat index, Dwayne Johnson’s career, and how best to consume non-fiction.
