#28 - The 10 Commandments of Doing

November 22, 2014

Well met, Crossroadies! On this week’s episode Yannis, Sam, and Yuki discuss the 10 most important commandments in a do-ist’s gospel. If you ever wanted to be the kind of person who takes action or simply want more guidance on how to further refine your doing, then here ye shall find salvation.

The Do-ist’s 10 Commandments

  1. I will stop thinking and start doing
    1. When you think too much you end up procrastinating
    2. If there is no start then nothing will ever happen
    3. A DOist always takes action

  2. I will always start simple
    1. Getting caught up in fine points without knowledge of the core can slow your beginnings
    2. Helps determine whether or not what you are venturing into is for you
    3. A DOist always starts simple

  3. I will always look for the lesson (a.k.a. read between the lines)
    1. Naysayers are always abound but they could have something valuable to offer in all the hate speech
    2. Get everything you can out of every interaction and disregard the words (sticks and stones, and all that stuff)
    3. A DOist always looks for what he/she can get out of all feedback

  4. I will always be learning
    1. A DOist is also a learnist, thirsty for more knowledge on what he/she pursuits
    2. Whether you are a novice or an expert on the subject, learning is part of life
    3. A DOist always embraces learning as part of their journey

  5. I will always share what I am doing with others
    1. Fear not that others might copy what you are doing (sincerest form of flattery, no?)
    2. Keeping your activities as a secret means the word doesn’t go out
    3. A DOist wants more partners in crime

  6. I will always embrace failure
    1. Failure is life’s greatest teacher
    2. Immediate success teaches very little
    3. A DOist always expects failure and learns from it

  7. I will always get right back up
    1. Persevere no matter how bad things might get
    2. Accepting defeat as part of life will forge you into a better person
    3. A DOist embraces defeat and uses it to his/her advantage

  8. I will always think ahead
    1. Although starting immediately is important, light planning and contingency preparation ensure better starts
    2. Determine when a risk can be taken and when it’s time to back off
    3. A DOist always wants to be aware of what is and what is not possible

  9. I will lean towards my ideals
    1. Don’t stand firm on your ideas and ideals because others may have better thoughts
    2. Consider all possibilities and accept that you do not know everything
    3. A DOist always listens for better advice

  10. I will know when to quit
    1. Sometimes what we venture to do ends up not being for us…or things just come full circle
    2. Quitting is not a sign of weakness nor defeat
    3. A DOist always knows when it’s time to move on
