Ep 34: Oscar Redux: I’ve got a golden ticket!

March 06, 2016

What low budget Podcast finds a way to get correspondents on the red carpet for the Academy Awards, not once, but twice? The Butcher Shop Podcast. And we couldn't have two better correspondents than the brilliant and classy Janine and Jane Applegate.

Our mother/daughter team describe the needle we made them thread to get back to the red carpet...well, almost to the red carpet. They were in the bleachers but still closer to Leonardo DiCaprio than you'll ever get unless you're one of the hundreds of supermodels that follow the BSP to keep up with Johnny.

Jane and Janine give us their opinion on whether or not Chris Rock pulled off the tough assignment of hosting the Oscars under the cloud of the boycott of an Awards Show that continues to lack diversity. We discuss the systemic issues that led to the Academy whiteout and how it can be fixed.

Of course we break down whether or not we agree with the evening's winners and losers. Did Leo deserve the big prize? Was Spotlight a bigger achievement than the Revenant or Room? Is Alejandro González Iñárritu the best director in the world? Or is he riding the coattails of cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki who just pulled off the threepeat.

We have it all on this episode of The Butcher Shop Podcast.
