33 - Jessica Spring Aims to "Keep It Clean"

April 24, 2015

Field trip! We visited the Tacoma studio of letterpress and book artist Jessica Spring. (Hey, when you think "happening art scene," do you think "Tacoma?" Well, believe us, you should. There's some amazing stuff going on there.) While Jessica's dog gently snored at our feet, we chatted about printmaking, the bizarre places ideas come from, and how Jessica would divide the labor if she had a team of clones. And then she gives us to our own challenge with a set of word dice! Links springtidepress.com - The best stop for the latest news on Jessica's work and her process, as well as links to her Etsy store, blog, and social media. deadfeminists.com - a collaboration between Jessica and TAR alum Chandler O’Leary, this series features hand-lettered and illustrated quotes by historical feminists, tied in with current political and social issues. A portion of the proceeds of each piece is donated to a cause that aligns with the issue highlighted by the artwork. bacart.org - You can see several pieces by Jessica in Carpe Librum: The Art of the Book, the latest exhibition at Bainbridge Arts & Crafts on Bainbridge Island, WA, now through 26 April.
