The Wondergroove Podcast - How to Succeed in Show Business and in Life

#2 – Sandy Jobin-Bevans from Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle: There WILL be another role for you. Diversify. Say Yes!

June 21, 2016

Episode #2 -
I spent a thoroughly entertaining hour chatting with successful Canadian film and television actor/comedian/host/sketch comedy and improv artist Sandy Jobin-Bevans (Harold and Kumar Go To Whitecastle, Life with Boys).  Sandy started out living the life of a struggling actor in a fringe improv group in Toronto.  A random phone call from the offices of the world famous sketch comedy and improv troupe The Second City found him serving hot dogs and orange drink to a large group of kids at a special event.  He was then hired to work at the Second City box office, and eventually worked his way onto the main stage as a resident member of the company.  Sandy's main stage status at The Second City has helped him land roles in major Hollywood films, starring roles in television sitcoms, hosting jobs for game shows, and a variety of other high profile projects.  Sandy has a truly unique perspective on what it takes to succeed in show business, and his laid back, positive attitude is completely contagious.  We talked about a wide range of interesting industry topics, and this conversation was full of valuable insights.  Here are some of the highlights:

the importance of saying yes to work, even if it's not the ideal job
believe that there WILL be another role for you
the value of diversifying in your career
why you should be willing to work for free during the early stages of your career
Sasha Baron Cohen, and the brilliance of commitment to character
accepting the fact that some potential employers just aren't going to like you
don't try to be funny, just be real

...and much, much more.

You can currently watch Sandy on the sitcom Life with Boys, now available on Netflix.
