Before authorizing a trip to Chicago, Jack’s editor requested more evidence that Shawn was murdered. Jack responds back to Bear Lake and interviews Officer Pena. Upon questioning Jack learns that Pena never looked in the rear of Shawn’s car for any other occupants.

Jack further questions Riley concerning the type of glove that Shawn owned.

After complying these clues, Jack relies on Detective Wexler. Wexler is unconvinced but Jack requests that they look at Shawn's car where Jack states he can prove that Shawn was not alone in the car before he died.

Wexler is finally convinced that Shawn was murdered after Jack pointed out that the rear security lock was unlocked which went against procedures that Wexler and Shawn always kept locked. Jack further pointed out that the car heater was on low. Shawn pointed out to Wexler that Shawn was not in the habit of talking to himself which indicates that the fogging of the windows was caused by Shawn talking to someone.

Back at Santa Monica, Gladden aka Brisbane has a bail hearing in which his lawyer is able to convince the Judge to set a bond amount Gladden is able to pay.

Jack arrives to Chicago and vistes the crime scene concerning the murder of Boffy Smathers. Shortly thereafter, Jack makes an impromptu visit to Detective Lawrence Washington. Detective Washington was the partner of Detective John Brooks who appeared to have committed suicide in the same manner as Shawn.

During their meeting Jack was able to confirm Detective’s Washington assumption that Detective Brooks did not commit suiside. Detective Washington informed Jack that by utilizing the information he provided, the homicide investigation concerning Brooks would be reopened.
