May 01, 2020

While at residence at Mark Twain, Bosch realizes that he can prove that Mittel killed his mother by checking his fingerprints against the print found on the belt that killed his mother.
Bosch rushes to the County-USC Medical Center and encounters Larry Sakai, reluctantly Bosch as Sakai to lift Mittel’s prints.

Bosch takes the prints to Brad Hirsch for examination but they do not match.

Bosch returns to talk to Dr. Hinojos. During their therapy session, Bosch express his bitterness that all he has accomplished in the last couple of days was to get people killed and not slove the murder of his mother.

Dr. Hinojo gives Bosch her opinion on the photos from his mother's crime scene. She noticed that his mother was wearing all gold jewelry and the belt that was used to kill her was silver, which is a combination which a woman would not normally wear.

Dr
. Hinojo also advises that Bosch's mother might not have been wearing the belt. The killer may have been wearing the belt and used it to kill his mother.

Bosch believes he finally knows who killed his mother and returns to Meredith Roman's house, only to find that several days before she committed suicide.

Meredith left Bosch a note trying to explain her actions, stating that in a momentary fit of rage and jealousy she killed Marjorie.

Bosch burns the note and calls 911 when Jonathan confronts him with a gun.

He had been waiting for Bosch, letting him find Meredith and the letter. Since Jonathan he tells him the truth: that in actuality, he is Johnny Fox.

Fox advises that he faked his own death, and he remained with Mittel as his bodyguard.

Fox orders Bosch to Bosch’s car. Simultaneously the police arrive and Fox is shot while trying to escape.

Following these events, Bosch returns to Dr. Hinojos where he is starting to process the consequences of his actions. Dr. Hinojo advises Bosch that “The past is like a club and you can only hit yourself in the head with it so many times before there is serious and permanent damage.

Dr. Hinojos also advises that she was called by Chief Irving who requested that Bosch be returned to duty. Bosch asked Dr. Hinojo if she thought he was ready to return to duty for which she stated his was close but not yet.

Taking Dr. Hinojos' advice, Bosch does not return to duty but instead continues to take leave.

Bosch travels back to Florida and is greeted by a cheerful Jasmine.
