Most people will accept that there is evil in the world. Looking back at the injustices and evils in history and having lived through recent years it would be almost impossible to deny its existence. But few people believe in the devil. Today we consider Jesus’ encounter with the devil which is frequently dismissed by the irreligious and the atheist as a hallucination brought on by extreme hunger. But if you don't believe that the devil exists, you cannot resist him. If we are to resist the devil, we have to learn to recognise him, understand his tactics and know how to resist them. This is the stuff of this morning’s message.
