Getting to Know James Lawrence (aka. Iron Cowboy)

For those of you who may not be aware of what an Ironman Triathlon is ... GET READY TO BE SCHOOLED! This week the crew from the Fitness Insight podcast got a chance to sit down with James Lawrence (aka. the Iron Cowboy), an incredible and inspirational Guinness World Record holding athlete who is raising awareness about the epidemic of childhood obesity in North America by completing 50 full distance Ironman triathlons, in 50 consecutive days, through 50 different states!
To give you some perspective ... a standard (or Olympic distance) triathlon is 0.93 mile swim, 25 mile bike and 6.2 mile run (a total distance of 32.13 miles). An Ironman triathlon includes a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.2 mile run (a total distance of 140.6 miles). James is attempting to complete one Ironman triathlon every day (for 50 consecutive days), one in 50 different states ... and his journey begins on June 6, 2015.
In this week’s episode of the Fitness Insight podcast, Jamie Atlas (www.bonzabodies.com) and Andrea Oh (www.todaysfitnesstrainer.com) get to speak with James Lawrence and learn more about what inspired him to start this journey, how he is preparing to "survive" the gruelling 50 days, and what his plans are beyond the final finish line in Provost, Utah on July 15, 2015. He provides insight into the life of a triathlete (and Ironman triathlete), what it takes physically to complete a race, what it takes mentally to endure the physical challenges, and his thoughts (and concerns) going into this controversial journey across the United States to raise awareness about childhood obesity in North America.
