It wasn’t all that long ago that we’d send out a press release about a nullification effort and get nothing back but echoing silence. Chirping crickets. Maybe a few croaking frogs.

In the early days of the Tenth Amendment Center, the mainstream media pretty much just ignored us. But as the nullification movement found its footing, they couldn’t just pretend we didn’t exist anymore. So, they moved on to making fun of us and calling us names. You know –  Racist. Extremist. Fringe kooks. Rachel Maddow did an entire feature highlighting our work with the provocative title “Confederates in the Attic.†The Southern Poverty Law Center attacked our work. Big political think tanks like the Heritage Foundation looked down their noses at us.

And still,  the movement kept building and growing.

Then, this past legislative session, an amazing thing happened. It’s gotten to the point where now four-fifths of all states in the country have some kind of nullification legislation passed – that according to an AP report.

Yes – an AP report. An AP report that took the nullification seriously. An AP report that treated us like a legitimate political movement.

Indeed, nullification is going mainstream. They don’t ignore us any more.

Last Saturday, Politico ran a front-page article titled, “States seek to nullify Obama efforts.â€

they quoted me generously in the report – putting my comments first before quoting anyone else.

“Rosa Parks is the beacon of light: If you say no to something, you can change the world,†Michael Boldin, founder of the Tenth Amendment Center, which favors states’ rights, told POLITICO.

“Isn’t that what it’s supposed to be, ‘We, the people’?†he added. “Over the past few years, you’ve seen this growing. … People are getting sick and tired of federal power.

The Drudge report took notice, running the headline front and center on the top of the page.

Nullification has evolved from a historical oddity – to a fringe movement – to a political firestorm. The idea is now supported by the majority of mainstream voters, according to a recent Rasmussen poll.

Nullification has gone big time!

I have to admit, I feel a certain level of personal satisfaction, vindication and a sense of triumph. We’ve worked hard to get here. But that’s not what really excites me. The real news here is that this new-found attention means we have the potential to go full-press against federal overreach.

To quote the Carpenters, “We’ve only just begun.â€

Media attention helps to fuel our work, because the more people hear about it, the more likely it becomes that people will take action to support it.  The more steps people take to nullify, the more we’ll see successes on a state and local level.  The more that happens, the more the mainstream will have to report on it.

And the cycle repeats – like the proverbial snowball rolling downhill!

And we are rolling!
