I just read one of the most amazing books on fly fishing, The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings. It hit me like a ton of bricks. All in a good way and I wanted to share with you my feelings about this wonderful story.

The Reel Sisters Review

The story follows five women who are part of a group known as the Reel Sisters. Each character represents a part of a fly fishing rig. As a fly fishing angler myself this story struck home in more than a few ways.

What happens when a naked girl is swept downriver and is rescued by a group of women fly anglers? The Reel Sisters is that story. Yet this is not just a story about women fly fishing, this is a story about life. It doesn’t matter whether you are female or male. We have all experienced some of what these women have gone through.

Following the five protagonists on their adventures as anglers, the reader comes to recognize how each one fits into a full fishing rig. The women in the book prove that fly fishing has no barriers when it comes to age, sex, or how a person lives their life. Socioeconomics appears to create barriers to fly fishing, yet Reel Sisters proves this to be a wrong assumption.

Friendship is a central theme of the Reel Sisters and is what keeps many of us fishing. I personally identified with these women and have reflected on my relationships with my fishing buddies. As an angler with many friends who fish, I am reminded that I need to cherish my time with them. There are no guarantees in life but having friends to spend time with makes it all worth it.

The Reel Sisters Conclusions

I have a feeling that this is going to be a book I will read every year. I know it has caused me to review many things in my life already. What will come out of each reading remains to be seen, but I know lots of positive things likely will happen.

Purchase this book and join the Reel Sisters as they experience life and fly fishing. I know I will be purchasing copies for many of my angling friends and clients.
