Marigold shares her personal story of resilience, people who have supported her and, all about going after your goals and not giving up.

Get to Know Marigold Mioc…

Marigold Mioc is 9 years old and in the 4th grade. She was Little Miss Calgary in 2016. She attended many events in the city during her reign where she volunteered her time, fundraised, and gave speeches (100+) as a representative of Calgary.

She has volunteered with CARE Canada, Epilepsy Association of Calgary, Meals on Wheels, Junior League of Calgary, 100 Kids who Care, Calgary Syrian Refugee Support Group, AARCS, Made by Momma; as well as at many community events, banquets and festivals. She has helped in the following ways at events: Usher, food and beverage sales, check- in desk, face painting, storytelling, drawing, handing out awards, selling tickets, collecting data, clean up, set up and takedown, applying temporary tattoos, handing out balloons and promotional items, and giving speeches. 

In Spring 2018, Marigold cut her hair very short and donated her hair to Angel Hair for Kids, to be made into a wig for a child with cancer. She has had a business, called Marigold’s Heart Garden, since the age of 5, making and selling flower headbands. She auditioned for Dragon’s Den in 2015 and plans to again this year. 

Marigold is interested in human rights, acting, modeling, gymnastics, politics, reading, travel and has a strong love for animals.  Her goal is to be Prime Minister so she can help people and make a difference in the world. She would first like to become a United Nations Youth Ambassador and a WE Facilitator and attend Harvard Kennedy School of Government for a Master degree in Public Policy.

Marigold has used her own money to help sponsor a family from Syria as a Group of 5 sponsorship, and for buying food, Christmas gifts and toys for the homeless. She has helped with securing donations of baby items and cash donations for Made by Momma, a local charity. She has helped to secure donations of toys, furniture, and clothing for newcomer families. She was a keynote motivational speaker for the One Woman and One Girl summit in February 2018 at Mount Royal University and was then invited to go on a WE Organization trip to Kenya with One Woman and One Girl in July 2018. She learned about the five pillars of the WE Villages development model (Education Water, Health, Food, and Opportunity) and helped to build a dorm residence for students. Marigold was featured on the One Girl website as a Superhero and she will be a keynote motivational speaker in Calgary and Edmonton in May 2019. She enjoys attending One Girl events each month, focused on empowering young girls. 

She has recently registered to sponsor a girl to attend the Kisaruni school for girls; raising money through selling her headbands and will make monthly payments. She will sponsor a student through 4 years of Secondary School in Kenya and plans to return in 4 years’ time to watch the graduation. Visiting Kenya was a life-changing experience, where she visited schools, farms, and clinics and participated in a water walk to see how challenging it is. 

She regularly attends human rights rallies, community events, and motivational workshops, including seeing Tony Robbins in 2017. She enjoys attending policy planning meetings and has worked on writing her own policy for continuing education.

Marigold wrote her first policy for the Alberta Liberal provincial government and it was read and passed at the convention in the Spring of 2018.
