Tech tAUk Reloaded #32: Revenge of the Nerd Proms
Once again, we weren’t invited to this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner, so we had to settle for spending our weekend recording yet another episode of the show for you. We’ve got a little bit of everything for you this week, from court battles to government resistance to rants to geeky facts about typography.
Our tech headlines this week:
- Apple, Facebook, others defy authorities; notify users of secret data demands
- Apple comes out ahead in latest court case with Samsung; further litigation likely to continue
- Facebook draws fire on “related articles” push
- Department of Defense to study Bitcoin as possible terrorist threat
In our new segment, Speculation Central, we look ahead to Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference, where OS X 10.10 is expected to take center stage, alongside a more minor iOS 8 release. We also speculate on what could be next in future Apple products, from a rumored iPhone 6 to the elusive possibility of an iWatch.
Josh offers a rant complaining about the nickname “Nerd Prom” being used to describe the White House Correspondents Dinner. And in the return of our Random Geeky Fact of the Week segment, Douglas discusses pangrams (such as “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”) and Lorem ipsum text, which are methods used to sample typography in document and webpage layouts.
Episode Duration: 1:07:55
On This Episode: Douglas Bell and Josh Feldman
