NSA releases dozens of code projects on GitHub

July 26, 2017

The secretive National Security Agency now lists 34 software projects on the agency’s GitHub page, a substantial increase since the agency’s first open-source software release in 2005.
“NSA uses open-source software releases as another way to move federally funded technologies from the lab to the marketplace. The releases make state-of-the-art tools widely available in a collaborative environment where they can evolve at market speeds, rapidly benefit the nation,” said Linda Burger, NSA’s Director of the Office of Research and Technology Applications.
The U.S. intelligence agency based in Fort Meade, Maryland, defends government signals and code from foreign intrusion. The agency’s tech transfer office was launched in 1990, and facilitates the exploration and formalization of partnerships that have helped the agency meet time sensitive mission requirements.
TechLink’s Sean Patten is ready to assist interested parties in executing cooperative research and development agreements with the NSA, an important step in accessing the agency’s intellectual property.
