13: INSPIRATION TUESDAY | Acres Of Diamonds

June 06, 2017

Today’s Inspiration Tuesday we’re talking about a man, born  in 1843 and throughout the rest of his life inspired millions of people. His name was Russell H. Conwell. He first was a Lawyer, a writer, and then a Minister. He’s best known and remembered as the founder of Temple University and the speech Acres of Diamonds which he delivered over 6000 times before he died in 1925.

One day a group of boys came to Dr. Conwell at his church and asked if he could give them college courses, because they didn’t have the money to pay for it. He said he would see what he could do.

As they left he thought that maybe there should be a place where poor and deserving young people could go and learn.

Pretty much by himself, Dr. Conwell raised over 7 million dollars which he founded Temple University.

He raised the money giving the speech I spoke of earlier all over the country.

The story was the account of an African farmer who had heard stories about other farmers who had made millions by discovering diamond mines. He got so excited about the stories, he sold his farm to go and search for the diamond mines. Where he spent the rest of his life wandering around, I said the rest of his life wandering around all of Africa searching for the diamond payday!

Finally, after no success, broke, and desperate he threw himself in a river and drowned.

On the other hand, the man who bought his farm found and unusual stone in a stream on the property which turned out to be, you guessed it, a diamond. And then found out that actually the whole farm was covered in them, and was one of the worlds riches diamond mines.

Now if we think back the first farmer owned acres of diamonds, sold them for chump change so he could look for them somewhere else. Now had e taken the time to study what diamonds in the rough form looked like and possibly checked his land first. He would have found the diamonds that were literally right under his feet.

The thing to get from this story is that everyone is really standing on their own Acres of Diamonds. If we take the time to really look at where we are and what we are doing we can see the life we are seeking.

Style nation, don’t be the person running from one thing to the next, searching for the get rich quick scheme. When all you have to do is, stick with modelling long enough, or stick with fashion styling long enough and watch the career develop over time it should take. Reasonable time is enough time. Too many of us today need the microwave success, when if we could have more persistence the oven be more time, but will be much better in the long run.

See if you get caught up in society, they will have you thinking that some businesses are better than others. That a Beauty Guru making videos on YouTube can’t have as much success as a doctor. Ask Michelle Phan of the $500 Million-dollar cosmetic empire Ipsy. There are no bad businesses, only people who don’t know enough to see the opportunities in the work they are already in.

The thing that will get you to see the opportunity in what you are doing is to become a professional in the thing you are doing and watch the doors, through reasonable time, open for you!
