9: INSPIRATION TUESDAY | Risk The Unusual Or Settle For The Ordinary

May 23, 2017

“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” – Jim Rohn

Style Nation this absolutely true. Think about it, if you do ordinary things how can that magically equate to greatness. You have to go to the next level.

I recently got back into the gym, I felt i was starting to get out of shape. Now if I was trying to get more muscular and I started at 25 pound dumbells, sure that first few days I might feel the pain and your muscles working. But if I continue to do that same 25 pounds, with the same routine guess what will happen… I’ll just end up getting leaner but not really growing.

Same thing happens when you’re working. If you aren’t looking to get better and do better everyday then you’ll only get faster at what you’re doing (that’s the lean muscle I talked about earlier). Some people are willing to settle for more safety than risk. It’s safer to be an employee than to be a Designer or to be an employee than to be a full time blogger. But that’s ok, if that’s what you want to do. My problem is when it’s not what you want to do and you are going to that job complaining day in and day out without doing anything about it. Nobody is making you stay there.

If this is you Style Nation, settling for the ordinary when you know you have greatness. I challenge you to take some time and really define your priorities. you’ll probably find you’re spending too much time majoring on minor things. If comfortable misery is what you want go right ahead. But just remember all the people who will miss out on those clothing designs, or that innovation in shoe design that changes the world.

I just finished reading Shoes Dogs, the memoir from NIKE’s founder Phil Knight and it was so inspiring, read it if you get the chance. All of the obstacles he faced through all the beginning years, he could have easily quit but every time he though about it he knew he wouldn’t have been satisfied with life. And I think man what if he would have let those things keep him down so long and allowed them to let him to give up. I don’t believe shoes would be the same today.

Don’t give up on your dreams. If you have a nine to five, when you get off go and work on the five to nine. Don’t let that dream lie dormant. Anything that lies dormant too long will die off. And guess when it will pop it’s head back up… in old age, I don’t remember the percentage number but in the top five is regret and missed opportunity with old people. I’m telling you this now so that you will at least try it, if you fail then at least you know and can move on. Better to know that you tried and failed than to not try at all and always have that doubt.

Style Nation make sure there is purpose in what you’re doing, and that you’re not just doing something because that’s how it was always done. But it’s what you really want to be doing.
