May 18, 2017

Christopher Jay Heller, Menswear designer from LA, walking through his thoughts on designing and the journey he’s taken to get where he is now.
Chris touches on his hashtag #TraditionallyUntraditional and how it fits his style.
Chris tells how him posting his “funny project of making the scarves” led to Taylor Swifts stylist reaching out to him and eventually getting his bowties in her music video 22
He takes us inside the studio and how long it takes him to make his clothing.
Chris tells us that 95 of what he wears are things he’s made, and why he doesn’t like making shirts (has something to do with Denise from the Cosby Show’s Gordon Gartrell custom shirt disaster.)
Chris talks about how exciting it was to see Oscar winner Tarell McCraney in one of his ties while receiving the Oscar.
Chris shows us an example on how his biggest challenge of organization can keep you from giving your best and why pulling through on your commitments can help make relationships that last.
Why not knowing how to draw shouldn’t stop you from being a designer. There are ways around it, but it’s not a defining matter.
What was holding Chris back from going into designing and getting past it.
Networking is an important step to moving forward, and how that’s the single reason why he’s where he is now.
Chris’ long term goal is to open a place for all kids to be able to come together and learn from each other.
