Pure Joy: James 1:2-3

June 17, 2020

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces [endurance.James 1:2-3 NASB

2-4 Don’t run from tests and hardships, brothers and sisters. As difficult as they are, you will ultimately find joy in them; if you embrace them, your faith will blossom under pressure and teach you true patience as you endure. And true patience brought on by endurance will equip you to complete the long journey and cross the finish line—mature, complete, and wanting nothing.James 1:2-3 The Voice

2-4 Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.James 1:2-4 The Message

My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!  For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things.James 1:2-3 The Passion

Quarrelling means trying to show that the other man is wrong

For you notice it is only our bad temper that we put down to being tired or worried or hungry; we put our good temper down to ourselves.

C.S. Lewis

The laws of nature, as applied to stones or trees, may only mean ‘what nature, in fact does’. But if you turn to the Law of Human Nature, The Law of Decent Behavior, it is a different matter….the law of gravity tells you what stones do if you drop them; but the Law of Human Nature tells you what human beings ought to do and do not.In other words, when you are dealing with humans, something else comes in above and beyond the actual facts.

You have the facts (how men do behave) and you also have something else (how they ought to behave). In the rest of the universe there need not be anything but the facts. Electrons and molecules behave a certain way, and certain results follow, and that may be the whole story. But men behave in a certain way and that is not the whole story, for all the time you know that they ought to behave differently. -C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
