Dr. Block graduated with Honors from the University of Pennsylvania in Biological Basis of Behavior and completed medical school at SUNY Buffalo in New York. He went on to do his surgical residency in otolaryngology at Georgetown University Hospital earning several research honors and residency-based awards. Dr. Block’s podcast focuses on what we should have been learning while we were memorizing the Krebs’s cycle covering all aspects of medicine.
In this episode, we discuss his podcast, we cover his path to medicine, how he thinks medical school should change, what we wishes doctors knew, and the tradeoffs between the sacrifices and rewards we make and receive working in medicine.

Over the past few weeks we have had our November website series featuring articles on the Residency Interview Process. We have had articles published by Dr. Jones about interviewing as an applicant of color, by Dr. Bryce with advice from a Chief Resident, and by Dr. Magnolia about how to Couples Match. We are about to launch our December editorials with the topic Dear MedStudent. If you have topic you want to write about, send our managing editor an email at jeremy@survivingmedicine.org.
