Bonus Q&A

Every person that we interview on The Super Strength Show has an opportunity to answer some extra questions that aren’t asked in the podcast. It’s a chance for our listeners to learn a little bit more about our guests and to get even more value from our show. Check out Jedd’s answers below!

Can you share one of your habits that contribute to your success in the gym? Every day, I get up and drink two giant glasses of water. This helps ensure I get off on the right foot with my hydration levels. In the past, I used to get terrible headaches throughout the day, and some would either interfere with or cause me to miss workouts. Since starting this process back in 2009, my headache rate has dropped significantly. Whereas I used to get 1 headache a week, I might sometimes get 1 a month. I attribute all of this to better hydration practices. To make sure my hydration stays up throughout the entire day, I also fill a gallon jug each morning and make sure to drink it dry by day’s end, often having it finished before I train at 4 PM.

What are your favourite exercises? Anything pinching, but especially Blobs and Block Weights for Grip Strength. For body, I would say overhead lifting: barbells or dumbells, strict press, or more dynamic like pushes and jerks.

What are your favourite muscle groups to train? Shoulders and arms.

What are your favourite pieces of equipment? Aside from simple barbells, and dumbbells, I would say the T-Bar Row. I am actually getting one made very soon for my gym.

What is currently on your workout music playlist? A lot of Megadeth, Coal Chamber, and other hard rock and metal from 1999 to 2001. I can’t seem to get out of that era. If you check with some of the guys I have trained with, they will also tell you that I mix in an occasional Natalie Imbrugglia and Lisa Loeb hit. One band I have a few songs by that you might not have heard of is Trik Turner. Something about a couple songs of theirs that resonate with me, and although they are not super hard bands, the lyrics give me an energy spike every time I hear them.

How do you psych up for a workout or set? I do a few things. I say “Wooh” like Ric Flair, “Come on,” like I am pissed at someone ahead of me stuck in traffic, and sometimes I say “Who?” over and over and it kind of sounds like a dog barking.

What was one exercise or routine that gave you great gains in muscle mass and/or strength? Squats spurs the best muscle growth. As far as routines, I have never followed many programs and seen success. I did one really popular powerlifting program when it first came out in 2007 or 2008 and my lifts actually went down. I like to do my own thing.

What’s your favourite way to speed up recovery between workouts? Sleep more.

What’s your favourite meal? Chinese Buffet. When I am not trying to make weight for a comp, I will generally hit Chinese once a weekend.

What’s your favourite cheat meal and how often do you indulge? Chinese Buffet. When I am not trying to make weight for a comp, I will generally hit Chinese once a weekend.

What supplements do you feel work well for you? I don’t take any supplements with any kind of consistency. A jug of protein will last me for months and months. I don’t even average one shake a week.

What do you do to relax? I watch Pro Wrestling. I have a HUGE collection of VHS tapes. I have probably 50+ vhs tapes of shows and matches I taped myself throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s, and I continue to buy old vhs pay-per-views and specialty tapes from WWF, NWA/WCW, AWA, Mid-South, UWF, etc.
