Episode 134 Unsend That Email! Oh Yeah!

June 29, 2015

Technically, it's 'Undo', but I like the word Unsend better 'cause that's what I'm thinking!
How many times have you been in an over emotionally state and plan on sending an email, with all those emotions hanging out???  Too many, I bet!

You hear from someone via an email that doesn't sit just right or you don't hear from someone and are exasperated and demanding a response...whew, I'm doing a self analysis here, but you know what I'm saying has happened to you, if you're human, have emotions and send emails!  Just saying.

So when I heard and saw that G-mail now has an undo setting for when you want to retrieve that angry or not so pleasant email you can click 'undo' and it is unsent!  YEAH!  Talk about saving relationships, sanity, jobs, oh my the list could go on and on with this one!

I've had a few emotional weeks for many different reasons and have to pause many times over the internet missiles I was planning on sending.   Thankfully, I have learned to literally allow them to sit and simmer before I send them.  When I do that I always find myself re-wording, re-phrasing and often dropping stuff that I realize are not relaying what really is vital to my response.

It's also a good idea not to put the recipient in the email until you are sure you are ready to send.  I have gotten into the habit of creating the email, putting a subject in and then saving it as a draft.  I find re-visiting an explosive email situation or emotional I meant to say really calms me down and allows my response to be more creative and I don't have to go on a rescue mission of finding out if I mis-read and then mis-answered something...

I think you get the drift and will activate your 'undo' setting if you have a G-mail account - and really, remember, our perception may be totally off base in what we are interpreting someone's meaning...I think it has a lot to do about how we are feeling, too?  Any comment?  Would love to hear from you.
