“Brian Cuddy’s latest track, “Already Gone”, is out November 2 via Wel-Pel Records on all digital formats.
It’s the latest installment of an ongoing collaborative EP project that Cuddy has been working on from 2018 to 2020. For “Already Gone”, Cuddy travelled to Hamilton, Ontario to record at Threshold Recording Studios.
On the track, Cuddy reflects on the balance of existence after witnessing the impact of a senseless death on a close circle of friends. The deeply personal single sees Cuddy struggling to deal with a tragic loss while simultaneously navigating the loss of another personal relationship.
For each song on these projects Cuddy has looked to work with different producers to experiment with the process of recording. He was intrigued about how the the production process could bring forward the truest parts of his songs. This time around he reached out to fellow musician Ethan Paxton of Delta Days to produce the single – a partnership a long time in the making.
Cuddy’s collaborative journey has seen him release a set of 3 EPs between 2018-2020. In 2019, Cuddy released “Burning Light” working with Gavin Gardiner (The Wooden Sky) at All Day Coconut. The 2018 release “Falling” saw Cuddy team up with Aaron Goldstein (Daniel Romano, Bry Webb) of Baldwin Street Sound.
Cuddy’s take on jangle-style college rock has led him down a path of undistorted sounds and treble-heavy guitar that provide unique melodies to his introspective lyrics. His uncomplicated approach when recording is to try to create sounds that truly capture the intimate and spontaneous feeling of a live performance. Through this process he’s created a body of work that is sonically explorative and universally relatable.
Cuddy cut his teeth playing bass in the rhythm section of surf western band, INVASIONS. The band toured extensively between 2013-2016 and worked with Brendan Canning, Shawn Everett and Graham Lessard at the Banff Centre’s indie music residency. In 2015, he formed King Cuddy, a rag-tag jangly folk outfit releasing a self-titled LP in 2016 recorded by Andy Magoffin (Constantines, Great Lake Swimmers) which landed coverage in Exclaim!, a journal of music things, and CBC. King Cuddy was also featured on beer cans as a Collective Arts Series 7 artist.
Throughout his career, Cuddy has shared the stage with Courtney Barnett, The Growlers, Brendan Canning, Michael Rault, Mikal Cronin, Allah-Las, Calvin Love, and Mystic Braves.
