First appearing in Batman #1 in 1940, Catwoman was first known as "The Cat". Labeled as both villainess and anti-hero, the part time jewel thief has an enduring love-hate relationship with Batman.

The list of actresses to portray Catwoman in TV and films is impressive, and includes the likes of Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and most recently Anne Hathaway.

The Dark Knight Rises feature film brought the character back into prominence, with Ann Hathaway bringing a new level of athleticism to the role.

Some of the many awards garnered by the Catwoman character through the years include ranking #11 on IGN's "Top 100 Comic Book Villains of All Time" list, and #20 on their "Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time" list.

Wizard magazine ranks the character #51 on their "100 Greatest Villains of All Time" list, and Comics Buyer's Guide ranks her as # 23 on their "100 Sexiest Women in Comics" list.
