Iron Man was created by Marvel Comics writer and editor Stan Lee, making his first comic book appearance way back in March of 1963 in Tales of Suspense # 39.

A billionaire genius, Tony Stark is an engineer who created a powerful suit of armor while being held captive by criminals bent of having him build a weapon of mass destruction.

A member of the Avengers, Iron Man has at his disposal repulsor rays that he can shoot from the palms of his gloves, along with a uni-beam projector in his chest plate.

Other means of defense that have been developed along the way include an energy shield and several variations on the armor, including suits used for space travel and deep sea navigation.

Models of the suit also include those specifically designed for his battles with both The Incredible Hulk and The Mighty Thor.

Although "becoming one with the suit" may not make you a smooth talking billionaire, it seems to have done wonders for Tony.
