The third edition of the AJN Book of the Year Award winner, Middle Range Theory for Nursing, comes out this month. Take a listen below as we talk to Dr. Smith and Dr. Liehr about how this book differs than other books on this subject, and about the two new theories (self-reliance theory and transitions theory) included in this edition.


About the Editors:


Mary Jane Smith, PhD, RN, is Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs, West Virginia University School of Nursing. Previous positions include Associate Professor and Associate Dean, Graduate Division, School of Nursing, Duquesne University, Assistant Professor, Ohio State University, and others. She has published over 30 journal articles and columns for Nursing Science Quarterly and Archives of Psychiatric Nursing and presents nationally and internationally. She has been teaching nursing theory at the graduate level for over 30 years.


Patricia R. Liehr, PhD, ARNP, is Professor and Associate Dean for Nursing Research and Scholarship, FAU, Christine E. Lynne College of Nursing. Previously she was Associate Professor, University of Texas, Houston Health Science Center. Dr. Liehr has received six research grants for six and seven figures principally focused on adolescent blood pressure issues, has numerous journal articles and columns to her credit, and presents nationally. She did postdoctoral education at the University of Pennsylvania as a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar.
