Eps 109: Pádrig Ó Tuama and Lumpy Crossings

July 05, 2017

There's an old Irish proverb that says: 'It is in the shelter of each other that the people live'.

Today my conversation with poet, theologian, group worker, and leader of Corrymeela (the oldest peace community in all of Ireland), Pádraig Ó Tuama. It is something you will deeply enjoy.

We talk about some of the history of Ireland and the Empire of the United Kingdom, the sectarian violence from 1968-1998, called The Troubles, and the creation of the Corymeela Community, as well as the topics of his book "In the Shelter: Finding a Way Home".

This powerful and rich conversation spans important topics such as loneliness, exile, conflict and the process of peace, prayer, his own story of "exorcism" and homecoming, his fascinating spiritual practice that involves St. Augustine and "The Confessions", and his wisdom and insights that relate to where American now finds itself in a fractured place of social, political, and racial troubles.

Pádraig also reads several of his stunning poems-including one that has never been read; and discusses his next book that relates to the community and spiritual life spiritual at the Corrymeela Community. If his gorgeous Irish accent doesn't do you in, it's you're own fault. I've been so excited to share this episode with you–it's a delight.

BUT WAIT-THERE'S MORE!
