Of Course, You Will Marry the Wrong Person [SSL77]

June 28, 2017

Alain de Botton posits a brilliant idea very uncommon in our habits of contemporary coupling. The ways we are attracted and commence dating, courtship, engagement, co-habitation, and marriage are soaked in the untenable falsehood of romance. Flying in the face of eharmony and match.com profiles everywhere, Alain says, "Compatibility is an achievement of love; it must not be its precondition."

Today, I will reflect on this topic and read a portion of his article entitled "Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person" that he wrote for the New York Times last year. It was the most read and forwarded article in all of 2016–during an election year, no less!

Extras for this episode include goodies like info on Alain, really helpful links to his work, this particular article, quick links to a few of his books and more. Snag those (and help out the show) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/12137401 - You can visit https://patreon.com/sparkmymuse to see sponsorship support levels and rewards if you are interested. T-shirt designs are coming soon via Jackson Dame. YAY!
