SpaceGeeks Ep. 10: Cool Radio, Bro

August 27, 2015

In this episode of the SpaceGeeks podcast, Dan Leone talks to Mark Becnel: Co-founder of small space-electronics builder RadioBro. Mark barely waited for the ink on his masters in aerospace engineering to dry before setting up shop in the corn fields outside Huntsville, Alabama.

To be clear, both the company and the electronics are small.

It went up Nov. 19, 2013, on a Minotaur 1 from Wallops Island, Virginia, as part of the Air Force's ORS-3 mission. Sadly, ChargerSat-1 was never heard from again — but the experience of building it on a shoestring budget convinced the Becnels they could do stuff like that for a living after graduation.
