Rizwan Jagani – Classically-Trained Violist and his incredible story becoming a “new-fit” musician

January 16, 2021

Rizwan Jagani is an  accomplished American violist of Indian/Pakistani heritage and is an accomplished solo performer, orchestral and chamber musician, arranger, and producer.
Coined The “New-fit” musician, Rizwan reimagines the idea of what the viola can do by combining his Western Classical training with other musical genres such as Bollywood, Musical Theatre, Pop, Rock, and more. You can hear this in his various renditions of popular musical works, many of which have been recognized by leading musical artists and arts companies.
Rizwan is also an advocate for arts education and the pursuit of arts careers in the South Asian community. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Austin College, a Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and is currently the first Artist Diploma candidate of the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. He hopes to also pursue a Doctorate of Musical Arts in order to formally teach viola while also continuing his work in various musical outlooks.
In this conversation, we discuss:

Rizwan’s winding journey from medicine to music and how he dealt with “what other people say”
The magical “Harry Potter” story on how he first picked up his special viola
How Rizwan prepares mentally and physically for big concert pieces

Rizwan is an absolute force and this conversation gave me such creative energy!  Without further ado, please enjoy my conversation with Rizwan Jagani.
