Evangelism is Cooperating With the Holy Spirit, Part 2 (The Soul-Winning Motivator #42) #VA6

September 07, 2015

Our soul winning passage from the Word of God today is Isaiah 6:8 which reads: "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me."

Our soul winning quote today is from Danny Lovett: "The Holy Spirit accompanies the gospel. It is our privilege to turn on the drawing power by proclaiming the gospel....His drawing follows our giving out of the gospel."

Our soul winning devotional is part 25 of our series titled "What Evangelism Is" from Dave Earley and David Wheeler.

Evangelism is cooperating with the Holy Spirit, Part 2

The Holy Spirit is primary in God's work on Earth today./
The gospel is all Jesus - His death, burial, and resurrection for our sins. Yet the application of the gospel to the heart of the unbeliever is the work of the Holy Spirit. He is the person of the Godhead who is primary in God's work today on planet Earth.

Billy Graham has noted, "Man has two great spiritual needs. One is forgiveness. The other is for goodness...We need this two-sided gift God has offered us: first, the work of God the Son for us; second, the work of God the Spirit in us."

Since the day of Pentecost in about AD 30, the Holy Spirit has been primary in God's work on planet Earth. The Bible tells us that Jesus sat down because His primary work was finished. Hebrews 1:3 reads: "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high."

Just because Jesus' work on Earth was finished, that did not mean God's work was complete. In describing His departure, Jesus explained the turning over of responsibility to the Holy Spirit. John 14:2, 16-18 reads: "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you...And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."

In our next broadcast, we will continue to look at why evangelism is cooperating with the Holy Spirit.
