Global Workforce Changes

November 11, 2014

Author, speaker, and emergent workforce expert Carleen Mackay of Ageless in America is co-creator of a new series of muti-generational "playbooks" discussing global workforce changes about the vital importance of exploring and embracing all of the different work options we have available to us, arguing that this attitude can enhance our lives economically, societally and personally.

Carleen talks about how so many people who were laid off in their mid-forties or fifties get stuck in the rut of submitting resumes for jobs that no longer exist. It's frustrating and exhausting. In her 'playbook' series, she encourages asking different questions and to think outside the traditional 'resume/job' box.

If you're looking at where the opportunities are, you'll find it on the web. Start by looking at what employers are looking for. If you don't have that, you need to get it. You also need to learn sales skills rather than worrying about the old-school interviewing techniques.

Carleen says, "Work in the 21st Century is what jobs were in the 20th Century." Today, 'jobs' are transitory. By the year 2020, 'work' will be performed outside a job by at least 50% of the workforce - that means freelance, contract, consulting (not as an employee). Their numbers don't factor in the global workforce changes.

The work/jobs numbers produced by the government are meaningless. What jobs that have been added to the economy are minimum wage to replace high-earning professional jobs.
